Greetings from the sofa in my kitchen this mid-September Friday afternoon. It’s been a chilly day softened by the welcome appearance of clear blue sky and the all-important sun.
I love that phrase 'you're not half bad' it speaks perfectly to the particularity of sibling relationships - that kind of tender-but-could-turn-at-any-second (but will inevitably also turn back to tender 😊). How nice that you have such a large and loving family network, too ❤️
This is such a lovely read, Harriet. I, too, have a lovely big family in France, and I remain close to many of my relatives despite the distance. That said, what caught my eye in your post is what you say about loosening your grip on your writing. I have felt and experienced that too, and I do believe that writing begets writing.
Thanks so much Annette! It’s weird how I’m finding that sharing my writing more regularly is helping it to become more enjoyable, fun even. This is what I’ve wanted & it’s lovely to now feel like I’m entering a different phase of writing. It’s exciting!
Thanks so much Diana, and yes. I'm very lucky and it does me good to remind myself of that! Even growing up as one of four children there's always been a feeling of people being around and I love that. Thanks so much for reading and commenting. Hx
I’ve loved reading this. I have a big family - some still living in Orkney, some moved to Canada. I’m based in Surrey and my sister and brother are not too far away. I have 3 boys and they are closely bonded to each other and their cousins, so all of this resonated! And the 1970’s photo could have been plucked from one of my childhood albums! ❤️
Thanks so much Tracey! Thats' quite a geographic spread from Orkney to Canada although my brother now lives in Tokyo and there's a cousin in Perth, Australia but mostly we're flung around the UK. As much as we love to hate social media it's really helping us all to stay connected, even if it is in a light touch, superficial way esp the next generation. And isn't the photo great! I was so pleased when I found it, I'm the one of mum's knee in the patterned anorak. In other photos from that era I have my NHS specs on, it was quite a look! Thanks for reading and commenting, I really appreciate it.

Just lovely! Resonated with me on many levels. How fortunate you are, to have such a big family.
